KNOW Your Doshas
AN AYURVEDIC GUIDE TO IDENTIFY YOUR
BODY TYPE
Ayurveda recognizes three primary energies or 'doshas',
Vata, Pitta and Kapaha. Together they regulate every
physiological and psychological behavior, from basic cellular processes
to the most complex biological functions. When these forces are in a state
of natural balance, the defence mechanism of the body works at peak efficiency.
Every individual has all three primary energies(doshas)
in their constitution, although in different proportions. The proportions
of Vata, Pitta and Kapha present in any individual will determine his/her
preferences, behavioral patterns and emotional tendencies. The unique combination
of the three doshas in any individual determines his constitutional type
or Prakriti. the chart below will help you determine your predominant
dosha. Remember that everyone has a unique combination of all three. the
chart is only a starting point for determining your "Prakriti. For complete
determination, consult an Ayurvedic expert, fully trained in Ayurvedic
diagnosis.
Vata
Vata is the moving force.
It is responsible for all bodily activities and sensations. It controls
the movement of blood through the circulatory system, air in and out of
the lungs, excretions out of the body and nutrients into the cells.
Pitta
Pitta represents biological
fire. It governs disgestion and metabolic transformation of nutrients into
a biologically usable form. it also imparts the capacity to absorb ideas
and impressions, and bestow intelligence and an enthusiasm for life.
Kapha
Kapha provides substance
and support. It gives strength and stability, both physical and psychological.
Kapha energy enhances resistance against disease and promotes the healing
process.
