In 1885, when a group of young men started questioning the religious beliefs being taught in northeast Georgia, they formed an independent church. Around 1885, they became affiliated with the Universalist Association, and became Canon Universalist Church. The current church building was built around 1905.
Canon Universalist Church is a small intimate church which adheres to the free progressive tradition of Universalism.
Services are held the third Sunday of each month at 11 AM, with guest speakers conducting services. Located at 5160 Georgia Highway 17 in the middle of Canon, Ga. Between Royston and Lavonia, 9 miles from I-85.
