Artists
Those of us who call ourselves artists, who have the ability to replicate things on canvas or whatever mediums we choose to use have a special and unique talent. A talent that can be developed, but for the most part, it is natural and God given. It is a gift which is hard to explain, and is part of the physical and mental makeup of certain people.
Whenever I see someone having trouble drawing or painting a picture, it’s almost inconceivable to me that they would have such a problem doing something that is so simple to me. So let’s ask this philosophical question, does the fact that each person has a different skill from that of another, nullify or discredit the saying that “everyone is created equal”? Every artist has a different skill level. Some are better at portraits than others, and some are more comfortable doing landscapes and abstracts. Some feel it is challenging to become proficient at them all. So I don’t think it have anything to do with equality, but God’s way of allowing us to share in our differences toward the benefit of humanity as a whole.
Sometimes I see the work of other artists that I like a lot. Some of their work provoke (inspire) a challenge in me to see if I can replicate their work, or create some facsimile of it. This feeling is not envy or jealousy, but one of admiration and compliment. Before I ever did anything impressionistic, I saw some impressionistic artwork, I liked it, I tried it, and it was fun doing it.
People often ask me,” how do I make my clouds look so realistic”, and “how do you make water seem so real”? Well it’s all in the technique. Once you learn certain techniques, they become quite simple.
Art is not about money, or should I correctly say that a good artist is not motivated by the potential of making a lot of money. Because most artists would preferably keep their work, mainly because you fall in love with it as you bring it into being. I almost said, “you fall in love with it as you come to the point of completion”, but that would have been an erroneous statement, because that point never come when you think you have completed a project, you just quit to avoid overdoing it.
What does a picture do? A picture captures a moment in time, or it conveys an artist’s imagination, making it available for others to see. It is like freezing time. Unlike an artist, a camera can’t produce imagination, an artist can. An artist can produce a scene from memory while a camera can’t. That is why good paintings are usually referred to as masterpieces. You can relate a story to a good artist, after which he or she could produce it for you, using the imagination, one of the reasons it is said, “ a picture is worth a thousand words”. Of course I think a picture probably worth more than a thousand words.
Welcome to Abdul's Art Galore Official Web site. We hope that you enjoy the magnificent artwork you will see here, and the Historical perspective offered with each painting. Periodically we will rotate and add new paintings to the exhibit.
Abdul's Art Galore's sole purpose is to exhibit Artwork which depicts life as it unfolds. And to capture historical events worthy of preservation for future generations to benefit from. Of course all events are not good, but they allow us to reflect on things we might consider avoiding for the sake of not repeating.
